Onion price rate and central government solution 2022

The issue related to sale of onion will be solved – the big decision taken by the central government
Onion crop is produced in India on a large scale. Onion prices are constantly fluctuating, which leads to changes in the financial policies of consumers and farmers. In such a situation, the central government has taken an important decision.
The central government will maintain a buffer stock of 2.5 lakh tonnes of onion to help stabilize onion prices. For this, the central government is going to release a large share of onion in some cities like Delhi. Where onion prices are higher than average rates.
50,000 tonnes of onion will be sold by consumer affairs department in some big cities. Therefore, onion prices will remain fair and stable in that area.
The central government is paying a rate of Rs 18 per kg for onion production. Onion production in 2020-21 was 266.41 lakh tonnes and consumption was 160.50 lakh tonnes.
When does onion price increase?
Onion prices rise during the short months of September to December due to the perishable nature of onions and differences between rabi and kharif crops.
To address the issue of post-harvest loss of onion crop, the department has launched a grand challenge for the scientific community, researchers and startups to develop prototypes for post-harvest storage.
